These are the steps we took to get here...

  • INITIATED PUBLIC TRANSIT STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE
Public transit has many benefits to people, the environment, and the sustainability of cities. The capital area of PEI has seen a significant increase in ridership in recent years and there is a need to update the Public Transit Strategic Plan to guide the next stages of development and operation of public transit. The future of public transit looks very different than the past. As an example, the Capital Area Transit Coordinating Committee representing Charlottetown, Cornwall, and Stratford, with support from provincial and federal governments, are working towards transit electrification.

Input from the public is crucial to this new transit plan. Consultants from Left Turn Right Turn have been hired to lead this plan update. Public and stakeholder input is a key deliverable and engagement opportunities are rolling out. Virtual and in-person community consultation sessions were held this fall. After the public engagement opportunities below, the final transit strategy is expected in Spring 2024.

  • DRAFT TRANSIT STRATEGIC PLAN SERVEY
Draft recommendations, based on public engagement that took place in the fall of 2023, transit-based analysis, population growth projections, and more, were developed. The City of Charlottetown and the Towns of Stratford and Cornwall partnered with Left Turn Right Turn to create this plan in an effort to guide the growth, development, and operations of public transit over the next ten years. This survey was conducted to collect public feedback on the recommendations being presented in order to refine the plan and to meet residents’ expectations.

  • VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETING
In addition to a survey there was a virtual public meeting held on January 30. Participants had the opportunity to hear the 10 year plan explained and got a chance to provide their own input.

  • PUBLIC TRANSIT VIRTUAL SESSION
The public was invited to join consultants from Left Turn Right Turn for an online session on Oct. 26 to provide feedback and input on the draft 10 year plan.

  • CAPITAL AREA PUBLIC TRANSIT SURVEY
Residents of the Capital Region were invited to complete a survey responding to proposed new transit routes. What better way to understand what is going to work and what's not, than to go to the actual clients of the service?
