Belvedere Roundabout
The Belvedere Roundabout will be Charlottetown's fourth City-maintained roundabout.
Currently, the intersection is a challenge based on how the various roads come together. The complexity is unique but the engineer design solutions address that and more.
The new 5-legged roundabout will feature:
- A single lane roundabout for car traffic - the exception of the northbound approach to St. Peter’s Road being two lanes
- The construction a uni-directional, 1.5m wide, paved active transportation pathway that circulates the outside of the roundabout and will replace the proposed sidewalk.
- All users will be directed to circulate counter clockwise (the same as vehicular traffic circulates) on the pathway to get to their destination.
- The construction of ramps at all approaches to ensure safe and easy accessibility for cyclist when enter/exiting the cycling lanes on the roadway.
- Installation of detailed signage and a road markings plan will be developed later this year to direct users on how to navigate the roundabout
- Bike-friendly and pedestrian crossing lighting
- Center island design is currently being discussed which could include landscaping, but also public art
- We will also be working to improve driveway access points on St. Peter’s Road and Brackley Point Road
Work is expected to start late-summer 2022 and be completed before the end of the year.
