The Belvedere Roundabout will be Charlottetown's fourth City-maintained roundabout.
Currently, the intersection is a challenge based on how the various roads come together. The complexity is unique but the engineer design solutions address that and more.
The new 5-legged roundabout will feature:
A single lane roundabout for car traffic - the exception of the northbound approach to St. Peter’s Road being two lanes
The construction a uni-directional, 1.5m wide, paved active transportation pathway that circulates the outside of the roundabout and will replace the proposed sidewalk.
All users will be directed to circulate counter clockwise (the same as vehicular traffic circulates) on the pathway to get to their destination.
The construction of ramps at all approaches to ensure safe and easy accessibility for cyclist when enter/exiting the cycling lanes on the roadway.
Installation of detailed signage and a road markings plan will be developed later this year to direct users on how to navigate the roundabout
Bike-friendly and pedestrian crossing lighting
Center island design is currently being discussed which could include landscaping, but also public art
We will also be working to improve driveway access points on St. Peter’s Road and Brackley Point Road
Work is expected to start late-summer 2022 and be completed before the end of the year.
